The certified nursing assistant (CNA) role is an entry level patient care position that is an important part of a patient's healthcare team. The RI Department of Labor and Training ranks CNAs as one of the fastest growing occupations in the state and are currently in high demand by RI health care employers. This course provides instruction on utilizing a humanistic approach to provide basic care to patients in a variety of health care settings. Students will learn how health care systems operate and the skills necessary to function safely and efficiently in a health care setting. Students will acquire the knowledge and practical skills necessary for taking and passing the RI state licensure CNA exam. This role experience is so highly valued, that many college nursing programs, require this credential or weight it positively for acceptance into an often highly competitive registered nursing college major. Each one hour session begins with a mindful moment, reading a book together and a short conversation about how the stories relate to our own feelings and life experiences.
